It was 9/11/2001, my office (Chemonics International) was on 20th Street, NW Washington DC. Ashraf Rizk, Tony Teele, and I first heard the news on TV in our boardroom and later could see the smoke from Flight #77 that hit next to the Pentagon. We decided to stay in the building while the streets filled with cars. The overwhelming sadness was only equalled by the uncertainty that it wasn't over. The next day as I walked to work seeing armed soldiers on every corner I knew that our lives would never be the same. Yet, I was inspired by the stories of courage and people helping people; the strength of our country had been realized in our darkest hour. 4 years later I would make my first trip to Afghanistan and would see first hand the impacts of war and terrorism while dealing with the murders of eleven of our colleagues at the hands of the Taliban. I was then able to see first hand and appreciate the sacrifices made by our men and women in the military and our foreign aid workers. I also grew to respect the resilience of the Afghan people, fighting to make a better life for their families in the midst of chaos. For a brief moment we were one; may we never forget what made us great. Yes, "we are our Brother's keeper". Today, I stand in prayer for all those who lost loved ones on that tragic day and everday since as a result of this horrific act of violence. 15 years later and we are not safer but are experieincing a world that is less stable and secure. We still have much work to do to make the world a safer and better place for all God's children. #healtheworld #supportourheroes

Congratulations to Congressman Scott DesJarlais; once again he had a tough battle to retain his seat and he came out on top. I am happy that he and I have been able to laugh and talk along the campaign trail. He has an incredible group of people that work on his behalf in the 4th District.

I also want to thank all of you for my great victory! Our campaign fed the poor and homeless, I walked 70+ miles across 4 counties meeting constituents and hearing their concerns; I tried to touch lives and in the process my life was forever touched. This has and will continue to be an incredible journey. The people that I have met on the campaign trail have strengthened my commitment to work hard to make a difference for those who are the most vulnerable in our society; I truly believe that we have to do better as a country. I will continue to do my part in this effort. I was blessed to have the support of family, friends and wonderful constituents throughout the 4th District. I had a team of people around me that kept me on track and made the process enjoyable; I don't think any Candidate had more fun than I did during this process. So I win!

I have known the blessing of waking up everyday and going out and doing what I love and what I'm passionate about....I just want to work every day to make a difference in the lives of others; I want to live a life of purpose and be a good servant leader.

Thank you all for your love, support and kindness. I'm proud of the campaign we ran and today we take the next step toward our destiny. "Life is to be approached like chess not checkers." I thank God for this journey and for all of you.

These pictures highlight some of the wonderful people met and the great times we had along the trail! #persleyforcongress

RT @Franklin_Graham: Can you imagine the impact it would have of we had Christian men & women as mayors, city council members, school board…
